Gibb's Farm

Each day at Gibb's Farm follows a gentle rhythm. A sanctuary for the senses to rejuvenate the mind, body and soul, it is a destination in itself as much as a base for safari goers.

This historic organic farm and family coffee plantation covers over 80 acres on the forested outer slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater. Guests share in an eternal sense of history and community across two family houses and seventeen cottages.

Generations of local families have helped create a truly authentic, serene and memorable experience embracing traditional East African hospitality. Established in the early 1900s by a German Duke as a coffee plantation, the farm was bought after World War II by founders James Gibb and his wife Margaret, who established it in the 1970s as the oldest guesthouse in northern Tanzania.

Gibb's Farm has a deep and meaningful connection to the diverse communities and cultures of East Africa. Through personal relationships, cultural programmes and conservation efforts, the farm helps preserve the history, stories, artwork, medicine and ways of life of the Iraqw and Maasai, as well as the surrounding natural environment.

The entire organic farm — 30 acres of coffee, 10 acres of vegetables and fruit, 5 acres of flowers and herbs, and a working dairy and pig farm — is run on sustainable methods. Everything is grown organically using only natural fertiliser and compost from the farm. Alongside that sit projects in solar energy and community upliftment, continuing the legacy of Margaret and Jim Gibb.

Dining is farm-to-table by definition: what the farm grows is what reaches the kitchen.
