Karatu Runs Together as DED Hokororo Pledges Support for Visit Karatu

Residents, council staff and families filled the streets of Karatu for a community run and fitness morning — and District Executive Director Hokororo confirmed that Karatu District Council will work alongside Visit Karatu to promote the district.
Karatu woke up early and moved together.
Residents, council staff, families and members of the Karatu DC Runners club set off along the main road as the sun came up, a long column of blue and white shirts stretching across the tarmac with a police escort clearing the way. Behind the runners came walkers, parents with children, and anyone who simply wanted to be part of the morning.
Karatu District Council joins the promotion of Karatu
The morning carried news that matters for everyone working to put Karatu on the map: District Executive Director (DED) Hokororo has accepted to contribute to Visit Karatu's activities to promote the district.
It is a significant step. Visit Karatu exists to show the world what this corner of the northern highlands has to offer — the crater on our doorstep, the farms and coffee, the culture, the sport and the people. Having the District Council alongside that effort means the promotion of Karatu is no longer only the work of businesses and volunteers, but something the district itself is putting its shoulder behind.
More than a run
After the road, the crowd gathered in the shade for aerobics. An instructor took the front, music went up, and every arm in the yard went up with it — council officers, young people, mothers, and a good number of children who were not going to be left out of the dancing. There were campaign shirts in the crowd too, including PINGA UKATILI, a reminder that these mornings do more than raise a sweat: they bring messages to people in a way a poster never will.
It is exactly the kind of event that shows Karatu at its best. Visitors come here for the Ngorongoro Crater and stay for everything around it, and a district that runs, dances and turns out together like this is a district worth visiting.
What comes next
Visit Karatu will be working with Karatu District Council on activities that promote the district — sport, culture, community events and the everyday life that makes Karatu more than a gateway to the crater.
